Sean Carpenter is the Communications Director for 1000 Friends. He writes, edits, designs our assets and external communications, handles media relations, and even manages this site. It all started when he decided to go to journalism school — he got the degree but decided that journalism wasn't for him. He's applied his journalism know-how to nonprofit communications, where he's been ever since. He's spent most of his career in public media and economic development in Alaska, where he was born and raised. Sean holds a Bachelor's degree in Journalism & Public Communication from the University of Alaska Anchorage, and an MBA from Western Governor's University.
Tom McCall famously said that "Oregon is an inspiration." Sean finds inspiration not only in Oregon as a place but with the kindness and passion that its residents exude.
His favorite place in Oregon is Portland (he's a city boy at heart), and his favorite place not in Oregon is Girdwood, Alaska — an adorable resort town twenty minutes from his childhood home. When he's away from work you can find him with his camera and an extra large glass of cold brew, capturing the beauty of Oregon's people.
