For the last two years, 1000 Friends of Oregon proudly took part in a month-long campaign to celebrate Earth Day. Oregonians like you, from all across this state, joined us online and in person for experiences that strengthen our communities and working lands. We understand that when we get our land conservation and development decisions right, we protect the air we breathe and the water we drink. When we get them wrong, we all suffer.
Unfortunately, for 2024, the official Earth Day Oregon campaign’s primary sponsor is Intel. But right now, Intel is proposing to pollute the air we breathe and divert the water we drink to cool their equipment.
That’s why we’re opting out of this year’s official Earth Day Oregon campaign, and creating our own.
We’re putting our hardest-hit communities first. We’re partnering with people and mission-driven organizations to feature some of the major land conservation and development issues that 1000 Friends is working on with and for Oregonians. We’ll be sharing these stories with special emails, as well as on our website and social media, all month long. Stay tuned!
In the meantime, here are 5 more ways to celebrate Earth Month with 1000 Friends:
- Join us on May 9 for a screening of An Oregon Story and a panel after the film with community leaders at the Hollywood Theatre in Portland.
- Don a safety vest with the 1000 Friends of Oregon team on April 19 in Portland for a neighborhood clean up with our business partner Happylucky.
- Reserve your spot at one – or all – of our IN A LANDSCAPE concert events this summer, in Salem, Portland, and Bend.
- Kick off or renew your membership with 1000 Friends of Oregon.
- Get wonky with us on April 26 in Eugene at the University of Oregon for a half-day symposium focused on innovations and threats to strategic and sustainable land conservation and development decisions.
More than 90 percent of our funding comes from individual Oregonians, making it possible for us to stay true to our mission – and the whole purpose of Earth Month – by calling out corporate greed and protecting our communities and planet in land use decisions across the state. We hope you’ll join us as we prioritize integrity, making sure we don’t just talk a big game – we live our values because that’s what’s best for Oregon.
Make your gift today to make a real difference for Earth Month, and for Oregon.
