Alana Kenagy

A person with a tan jacket, blue jeans, and a dark beanie stands next to large (bigger than they are) bundles of seeds

Board Member

I feel incredibly fortunate to have spent most of my life rooted on a mid-sized farm and wildlife land with along the Willamette River. And I am humbled to be a white person helping to carry on the stewardship of Kalapuuya land, that was purchased by my Mennonite ancestors two-and-three generations before me.

Over the years I have been drawn most significantly to questions of systems and culture, studying people, political science, communications, art, education... then more recently embodiment and the spirituality of transformation.

1000 Friends of Oregon is a significant priority in my life because I believe in the power of people who are re-connected to the web of life, and that that re-connection is bigger than an individual task. We need intentionality and collaboration to find and invest in alternatives to wealth concentration and ever-growing consumption pressure. We need stable places to live and innovate. We need to see beyond our own perspectives, to find generative paths to navigate our differences in order to refine durable solutions, and I see 1000 Friends working to ask the tough questions and vision a healthier future.
