Transportation Director and Legislative Manager

Brett is our Transportation Director and Legislative Manager for 1000 Friends. He works to advance sustainable and equitable growth policies for the Portland Metro Region. His love for our lands and environment came from a childhood of camping and working on farms in the Willamette Valley. This passion led him to pursue dual majors in Environmental Sciences and Economics at Oregon State University – go Beavs! He’s spent his early career in politics, working on campaigns and in governance on the state and federal levels.

Tom McCall famously said that "Oregon is an inspiration." Brett finds inspiration in chasing the Pacific Northwest’s dynamic seasons. Depending on the time of year you can find him snowboarding on winter-capped mountains, backpacking across spring's wildflower meadows, rock climbing at summer sun-filled crags and trail running through fall forests.

His favorite place in Oregon is the coast, where he’s just as happy going for a foggy hike as he is trapped inside with a good book. Outside Oregon Brett's favorite place is his former home of Washington D.C. and its parks, museums, culture and food.

When he’s away from work and the outdoors, Brett loves playing and seeing live music and helping with the family farms throughout rural Washington County.
