Digital Communications & Engagement Coordinator
Sarah Yeoman comes to 1000 Friends from the world of journalism and multimedia production. She has produced visual stories for outlets including CNN, Reuters, Bloomberg, Atlas Obscura, and more, focusing on the intersections of economy, environment, and community connection to land around the West.
Originally from Utah, she started her career as a linguist working with the nations of the Western Shoshone in language revitalization and data sovereignty. Transitioning into journalism, she covered a wide range of stories including the effects of climate change on Indigenous harvesting practices, how tech is shifting desert cattle management, the intricacies of Tribal court systems, and more. She is passionate about community collaborative, solutions-oriented storytelling and helping nonprofits express their values through engaging narratives. Before diving into visual strategy at 1000 Friends, she created photos and video supporting organizations worldwide, including Foundations for a Better Oregon, Alliance for Tribal Clean Energy, Smile Train International, and others.
Sarah now lives with her husband and very loud cat on Hillsboro’s urban growth boundary. When she’s not meandering around the West, she’s attempting (and failing) to grow hot peppers in her garden, hunting down the best 24-hour diners, and buying way too many cookbooks in the sale section at Powell’s.
